Researcher & Doctoral Candidate
Aug 2019 – Present Adelaide

Responsibilities include:

  • Developed mechanistic movement simulation models
  • Evaluated and modified statistical models of abundance estimation (e.g., Spatial Capture-Recapture, Random Encounter Model, Distance Sampling, etc.)
  • Developed complex workflow of simulations and analyses using

Research Assistant
National University of Singapore
Jan 2018 – Aug 2019 Singapore

As part of the Theoretical Ecology and Modelling Lab (https://ryanchisholm.com/), I worked on two projects: 1) Determinants of bird diversity on islands across the world, and 2) Undetected extinctions in Singapore. Responsibilities included:

  • Created a historical glaciation and sea level map resource (in ArcGIS, QGIS and Python) for simulation input.
  • Ran simulations of spatially-explicit neutral models of biodiversity in Python on High Performance Computing clusters.
  • Managed and collated data, ran empirical analyses (e.g., GLMM, extinction models), and wrote up manuscripts for publication

Education

PhD
University of Adelaide
Aug 2019 – Dec 2022 Adelaide

Developed mechanistic movement simulations based on spatial memory and individual interactions, and using them to

  • evaluate statistical models of population abundance estimation and
  • evaluate animal population control measures to assist in management decisions.
